Charging revolution for the ChaoJi standard

The ODU adapter

China's NEV market surpasses the million mark

The Chinese market is experiencing a remarkable increase in sales figures for so-called New Energy Vehicles (NEV) - recently even exceeding the impressive brand of 1 million vehicles sold per month. This development underlines China's growing importance as a major player in the e-mobility sector.

However, the acceptance and growth of electromobility in China is no longer limited to the national market, but is crucial for the global automotive industry: Charging infrastructure, charging power and the resulting charging time are considered key factors for success worldwide.

Despite all the progress made by the groups in different markets, one major challenge remains for the industry: the lack of standardization of charging standards.

Global challenge due to different charging standards

The diversity of charging standards worldwide poses a challenge for the international automotive industry - especially for manufacturers who want to export to the Chinese market.

Local fears that the European CCS interface could find its way into Asia have underlined the need for an adapted solution that meets the specific requirements of the Chinese market.

In response, the China Electrical Council (CEC) has developed the ChaoJi standard in partnership with the Japanese CHAdeMO Association. This new charging interface standard aims to replace the existing Chinese DC standard GB/T and the Japanese CHAdeMO interface - what remains is the ChaoJi. This offers a powerful alternative to the CCS standard with a more compact style and is designed to significantly improve charging performance and efficiency.

However, such a far-reaching change in charging standards will take place over a longer period of time, so that several standards will coexist during a transitional period.

In the near future, new electric vehicles will exclusively require the innovative ChaoJi charging plug, while the charging infrastructure often still uses the previous standard - this is exactly when reliable and robust adapters are needed that offer a perfect fit between the charging plug and vehicle socket.

In addition, an adapter can generally help to increase the number of charging points that can be used by end customers: This means that charging stations can be used that are not actually suitable for the vehicle in question.

The ODU adapter: A solution for the integration of different charging standards

ODU brings its extensive expertise and many years of experience in the field of electrical contacts to electromobility and, with the ODU adapter, creates a key solution to minimize the diversity of charging standards

Detailed knowledge of the charging standards to be combined is required during the development of the components. In particular, adapting the different contact arrangements in a compact enclosure requires a great deal of know-how in the design of the respective contact parts - a specialist knowledge that ODU knows how to use skillfully.

By combining two standards in one adapter, based on the proven ODU TURNTAC® contact technology, ODU enables the seamless integration of different charging standards, including the new ChaoJi standard.

The adapter simplifies the use of different charging interfaces and thus facilitates the accessibility and compatibility of charging stations for electric vehicles. ODU is thus playing a pioneering role in the development of reliable adapters for charging electric vehicles.
